After breakfast at our hotel we packed up our stuff and hit the road. It was a beautiful, sunny day and traffic was light. We made a quick stop for snacks and contact solution. - what is it about road trips and junk food? The drive was a straight shot for three hours, a turn south followed by more straight on driving, although the road got hillier. We stopped for lunch at the kids' favorite, Cracker Barrel. I could take or leave their food, but I love their lemonade. The last few miles to the ranch we kept thinking we had missed it, but no, we were on the right path.
The kids are enthralled. Theire is a herd of goats wandering around the property watched over by large dogs. There are baby goats by the barn that they can pet and feed. There are also piglets, but the momma hog does like the kids near them.
At dinner on Monday the owners of the ranch sit with us at dinner. Devlin tells them the broccoli is too salty. Out of the mouths of babes. They are very nice and friendly, as I guess one has to be in this business. After dinner there is a bonfire s'mores, described by some of the ranch employees as the most dangerous activity of the week.
Tuesday morning- possible activities for the day include horseback riding, rock climbing and canoeing. Liam is briefly tempted by canoeing, but opts for the morning horseback ride and rock climbing after lunch.
The morning ride is great fun, although my horse seems more interested in grabbing snacks than staying on the trail. everybody manages to stay seated on their horse. Mack, who has ridden before wishes it had been more adventurous. Devlin, Liam and I are happy with the difficulty and the pace. This afternoon we will try rock climbing, where Liam will take the place of the family pro and later the kids will have an arena ride and a movie and the adults will go on a twilight ride. I will update later.
